Andaz

Andaz

Located right in the heart of the historic ByWard Market district of Ottawa, Andaz is the first Canadian branch of Hyatt’s unique boutique-hotel chain. Tasked with designing this 15-storey building by Claridge Homes, NEUF architect(e)s – in collaboration with Mason Studio in Toronto – delivered the project within a mere 20 months.

Eschewing standard hotel conventions, such as check-in desks and grand lobbies, the hotel aims to draw a younger, more tech-savvy clientele. The cool aluminum and glass cladding is a bold statement within the historic neighbourhood, contrasting the red brick of adjacent buildings.

Beyond the 200 hotel rooms and suites, guests can make use of six conference rooms, a lounge, a restaurant and two bars. The rooftop bar is particularly noteworthy, spilling out on to a terrace offering stunning views of Ottawa’s skyline and countryside.

The project has since been featured in several publications, including being shortlisted for Wallpaper*’s Best Urban Hotels prize and winning Canadian Interiors’ Best of Canada Award.
